Showing Up
Joshua Zeitler
i lost three days to my bed, but
goddamnit, now i’m finding ‘em
i’m rubbing the sleep from my eyes
as i drag my ass to the bathroom
i’m scrubbing pots and pans
in the tub
heating SpaghettiOs on the stove
i’m bagging rotten vegetables
& hosing the crispers, racks, & doors
i’m the pied piper of Pleasant Ave
parading gnats to the curb
with my magic dumpster
hell yeah
i’m sweeping the porch clean
of ashes & butts
& smoking a pack for good measure
just look at me go: i’m Britney on the floor
& Marie Kondo in the drawer
matching socks & packing t-shirts
careful & compact
i know
there’s so much more
to be done
but see here
the hardest thing i did today was the first
and tomorrow
i’ll do it again
i swear
goddamnit, tomorrow
i’m showing up
